Piet Mondrian Reflection
Piet Mondrian
Research Project Reflection
After doing all my research on Piet, I thought it would be most fitting to connect him to Roland Barthes’ Death Of The Author. Piet was inspired by so many different art movements. He was led down a slow descent into abstract painting, and at the end, he eventually created his own art movement. I thought it was so interesting how, at first, he used these other art movements purely as inspiration for his work, but then he pushed them even further to create his own ideas about how he viewed art. In his essay, Barthes says that a text’s unity is not in its origin, but in its destination. Obviously, Piet wasn’t the first abstract artist, but the way he used existing art to create an original philosophy on art screamed Death Of The Author to me.
