Video 1: Death Of The Author
"A text is not a line of words releasing a single ‘theological’ meaning (the message of the
Author-God) but a multi-dimensional space in which a variety of writings, none of them original, blend and clash.”
Roland Barthes - Image Music Text
I have always liked the idea of being inspired by/inspiring others. I haven't thought about it strictly regarding art or media, but instead, people as a whole. I have always thought about how the people in my life inspire me with their personalities, their ideas, their quirks, the random things they say/do. Then these things become a diluted part of my identity. Then I pass this down to others, and it creates this chain. I just think it's really interesting, and this is what Barthes’ quote reminded me of.
My ideas for this project have been changing a lot. In part, this may be due to my indecisiveness, but I think it has to do primarily with changes in what inspires me each time I start to work. At the beginning of the term, I was looking at a lot of video footage, and I was going in that route, but recently I have been very interested in more of an animation style.
The thing is I don’t really even know exactly what the video I made is. I was kind of just experimenting, but I didn’t have an end goal or a purpose; I just had a few videos and sounds playing through my head. Especially with the music aspect of my video. I’ve never made/recorded music, so I just looked up different chords and found guidance that way. This part wasn’t even “blending” or “clashing”, it was pretty much just copying.
